Is the ACFT Going Away?
Starting June 1, 2025, the U.S. Army will officially retire the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) and replace it with a new test called the Army Fitness Test (AFT). The new test will consist of five events (the standing power throw is being removed) and will implement sex-neutral standards for combat roles. During the transition period, ACFT scores recorded before May 31, 2025, will remain valid and count toward promotion boards for a limited time. Full enforcement of the new standards, especially for combat MOS (Military Occupational Specialties), is phased in over time with complete roll‑out by January 1, 2026, for active-duty soldiers and by June 1, 2026, for Reserve/National Guard.
